Bethany's Mission Statement:

"My life's mission is to encourage and inspire people to consider alternative ways of thinking about their beliefs, their possibilities in life, their unseen options.

Simple pleasures, enthusiasm, optimism, joy, respect, generosity, honesty, clear communication, and laughter are vital to my life.

I stand for commitment, conscious intention, and the flexibility to change!

I am committed to treating myself and others with respect, understanding, caring, fairness and humor. I am against abuse and oppression of any kind.

I am committed to excellence and to letting go of the tyranny of perfection. I believe in being out there, speaking up, and making a contribution in this world. And I believe we all do that best in relationship with others. We do it together!"

Bethany Murray's Philosophy

Bethany Murray is a compassionate and energetic Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in the state of California. She is passionate about teaching interpersonal communication skills. She does this in individual, face-to-face consultations, in couples consultations, in small groups and online when appropriate.

She believes that our ability to communicate clearly makes it more likely that our needs will be met. In other words, if you can't say what you need without alienating others, you won't be able to get your needs met!

Bethany has had extensive training in interpersonal communication skills, psychology of women, group leadership, treatment of anxiety disorders, incest and molest issues, and the use of humor in treatment.

Shifts Happen!

Bethany has a presence that encourages people to feel comfortable and accepted. She can help you make sense of your life and your relationships. Her warmth and attentive attitude invites exploration.
She assists you in clarifying your thoughts, feelings and beliefs and improves your ability to communicate them to others.

She has a talent for separating who you are from what you do so that together you can decide what parts, if any, you want to develop--to get to know better. Maybe even change. She approaches growth and training in a way that inspires people to go beyond themselves.
Bethany is exuberant, intuitive, funny, perceptive, insightful, and irreverent. She laughs easily. Therapy and training with Bethany be deep and fun.

Her passion is empowering people to speak their truths. One of the best places to experiment with new skills is in Interpersonal Communication Skills Training groups.
She's very interested in exploring questions such as,

"What if (s)he really knows me, will (s)he still love me?"
"If I speak up, will they fire me?"
"What would my friends think of me if they knew I __________?"
"What will my __________ think if they know what I really think?"

Often we are taught to keep our ideas, our opinions, and our beliefs to ourselves in order to belong. In fact, often we keep our ideas and our opinions and desires so hidden that we hide them from our own awareness. When we learn to communicate clearly with others, we learn that in fact, it is not "me" to whom people respond to with negativity or fear, but my communication style and skills.

Interpersonal communication skills training is about discovering what we ourselves think, believe, and desire in a situation where we can learn to communication clearly with others in order to experience a more fulfilling life and more satisfying relationships.
